Bhutan villages especially the Western Region of Paro has so many Persimmon fruits growing within the Village home yard and garden. They are 100% Organic. Usually the Bhutanese air and sun dry the sliced persimmon to eat is during off season.
During the Persimmon ripening season in Bhutan, the villagers earn some income by selling these fruits but often the fruit grows in excess and the price they fetch is not too good. Thus the villagers leave the fruits to ripen on the tree and sadly the fruits get eaten by birds and ants and finally fall on the ground to rot.
Over years of seeing this state of these tasty fruit, we at Bhutan Jewel family began to procure the Persimmon from the villagers directly and started making AIR and SUN Dried sliced Persimmon and HOSHIGAKI. The end product took us over 2 months to slowly nurture these fruits. It was worth all our efforts as the Dried Bhutan Persimmon and Hoshigaki was so tasty. It is 100% natural, No Sugar is added, No Preservatives are used, and all of the Persimmon is procured from the Villagers so they earn an income from their Persimmon tree bed itself.
We hope we can continue producing this delicious and healthy Dried Persimmon and Hoshigaki so that everyone can take a bite when in Bhutan and abroad. In Bhutan we call such Persimmon as ANDAY KAAM which means Air Dried Persimmon
